Unearthly Review

Unearthly
Cynthia Hand
Harpercollins
January 2011

Summary:

In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

Review:

I found this angel book to be quite unique, espeicially because the main character, Clara, already know prior to the book what she is and what one day she will be capable of. The half/part angels in this book are also really awesome because they have actual wings. Awesome right? They also live to complete the purpose that Clara experiences in Unearthly, which is like a mission from God in a way. One thing that was done fantastic in this book was the slow progression of the relationship. Which does tend to annoy me if it's done way to fast. Clara starts off as barely a friend of Tucker, than they becomes friends who enjoy each others company, then become much more. Which is the way things work in the real word, unlike in fantasy land. Part of the book is spent getting to know Christian and the other Tucker, so you get a clear understanding of each character, and makes you question who will Clara pick.

I think that Cynthia Hand's story was planned to the best of ones ability, and with the awesome characters, story and writing makes one flawlessly written book. I mean the writing was one of the best I have seen in a while, this book was HUGE and I finished it in little over a day, and for me the speed I read it directly set by the writing. So that says something about Unearthly on it's own!

The relation was super cute when it did built to that point. It makes me wish I had my own personal Tucker. Tucker is now my all time favourite cowboy ( and I am totally now into the rodeo crowd... unually). I also really appreciate how the story was left off. It wasn't one of those unbearable cliffhangers that everyone hates to love. It tied up nicely without any cliffhanger, that still makes readers want to come back for more in Hallowed the sequel releasing January of 2012.

Overall this angel story stands out from all the others, and now rest right next to Hush, hush for favourite. Cynthia Hand shows just how much of an excellent writer and story teller she is in this fantastic debut. I cannot wait until Hallowed comes out to get a little more of Tucker. I rate this one a must read for those who are fans of the paranormal, or novels such as Hush, hush and Fallen. I can promise that this book with meet your interests.

  4. I can't wait to read this one. I have heard from several people that they love this book and that it is the best angel book. I have read Hush, Hush and while I like it I'm not in love with the series. I hope when I do get a chance to read this book that I love it as much as you have.

Thanks for the great review. :)

  5. He gives Clara a rough time after their lunch room encounter, but the meaner Tuck treats Clara, the more he falls for her. Tucker is level headed, easy going, gorgeous, has a rock hard body-Tucker is THE MAN. He had my heart when the word carrots came out his mouth, he won me with that.
