Review - The Iron King

The Iron King
Julie Kagawa
393 pages
February 1st  2010

Summary:

Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart

Review:

Ever since Meghan Chase discovered the faerie world her life turned into a never ending magical adventure. Lets me start off like this, I loved this book it was amazing I don't know why I didn't pick it up earlier! Julie Kagawa has is an excellent writer she writes with a good flow to her words and uses just the right amount of detail to keep readers interested but not too much that it gets annoying. The main character Meghan is a relatable character ( except for the faerie thing :P)  she not the perfect character like many books has, she has flaws and is down to earth. Her other character Ash and Puck are both swoon worthy, but after reading this book I'm team Ash <3 I loved him he's awesome! The book was written in a good pace with tons of action all the way through. What I really appreciated is that Meghan didn't deny that she was part fey, or that they even existed she accepted pretty easily so the story could continue without a huge part of the book denying anything.  The world of the iron fey series is really amazing it's magical, epic and very well thought out. The quality I liked that Meghan has is that she is willing to do anything for the people he loves no matter what the cost is to her and she showed this many times in the book.

I think the reason I didn't pick this book  sooner would have to be because of the publisher which is Harlequin Teen, which is a big turn off for me. Now I know not to judge a book by its publisher. I cannot wait to get my hands on The Iron Daughter as soon as possible to see what happens next to Meghan, Puck and Ash. This is the best Faerie book I have read so far. And I also got The Iron Knight on Net Galley so I have to read theses fast.

  1. I completely agree with you about the whole Harlequin thing. It took me a long time to finally break down and read this book, and when I did it was only because I got it really cheap for my e-reader. I was surprised when I actually enjoyed it. I didn't love it, but I did enjoy it. I contemplated picking up the series again, and until the other day when I was approved to an early review e-book of the newest book I wasn't in any hurry. The good thing is I have read they do get much better so I am just waiting for Daughter and Queen to come in the mail so I can read them before reading Knight. I'll keep an eye on your reviews and see what you think of them.

  8. LOVED this book! Both the love interests are so cool and swoony, that I just can't pick. (and that's really rare for me.) Great review, Hayley. :)
