Review: Half-Blood

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)Half-Blood

Summary:

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck

Review:

Overall I thought that Half-blood was a very action packed novel, but it was just alright for me... I've seen better. Half-blood is about teenagers who attend a school for teens who are offspring of the greek gods. Theres Pures and Half-bloods, Pures have power over an element, and Half-bloods are stronger than normal humans and they cannot be turned into a daimon.

So what I liked about this book, it had action from the frist page and carried through for the entire book. The leading male character, Aiden, if definetely someone who is going to be a real hit with the ladies. He's a heart throb! The writing was very well down, theres a lot of description, it has a great pace, and it's explained quite well so it doesn't get confusing. The writing is very captivating, it's a great debut novel. The relationship between Alex and Aiden seems natural in the situation, they had a background story, so it wasn't like love a first sight that tends to get annoying. Alex's best friend Caleb is awesome! He adds a humorous side to the dialogue. I love it!

Although this book had tons of action and was well written, it was too  much, like the vampire academy for me to fall in love with it. Much like in Vampire academy Alex the main character returns back to school after being away for a while, putting her behind in training. Her personality is a lot like Rose. In Half-blood you have Pures and half-blood, which very much resemble the Moroi and Damphirs. Just like the Moroi the Pures each have power over one of the elements and can be turned into the enemy if they choose.

The rating I'm giving this book is mainly because it wasn't totally unique but was still an entertaining read that many will enjoy and fall in love with. Hopefully in the next installment will be more unique so I can give it a higher rating! :)

  1. you're the first person (who's review I've read) to compare Half-Blood to Vampire Academy. I'm not to sure how I feel about that.... I pre-ordered this book a while ago, here's to hoping I enjoy it when it comes in :) Thanks for sharing!

  3. A great review. I think I've only heard amazing things about this one so far, so it's definitely refreshing seeing a more neutral review that wasn't completely blown away. I am curious though and I love Greek mythology... Hmm! I'm still not sure though, so it's worth thinking about. :)

  4. Half-Blood is based on Greek mythology which I'm a huge fan of. The characters of this book are basically divided into three categories. The Pure-Bloods, The Half-Bloods and the Daimons. The Pure-Bloods are treated like royalty. The Half-Bloods are either trained to be sentinels to protect the Pures or they are forced into servitude and become mindless drones.
