Summary:

The year is 1871, and Tiki has been making a home for herself and her family of orphans in a deserted hideaway adjoining Charing Cross Station in central London. Their only means of survival is by picking pockets. One December night, Tiki steals a ring, and sets off a chain of events that could lead to all-out war with the Fey. For the ring belongs to Queen Victoria, and it binds the rulers of England and the realm of Faerie to peace. With the ring missing, a rebel group of faeries hopes to break the treaty with dark magic and blood—Tiki’s blood.
Unbeknownst to Tiki, she is being watched—and protected—by Rieker, a fellow thief who suspects she is involved in the disappearance of the ring. Rieker has secrets of his own, and Tiki is not all that she appears to be. Her very existence haunts Prince Leopold, the Queen’s son, who is driven to know more about the mysterious mark that encircles her wrist.
Prince, pauper, and thief—all must work together to secure the treaty…

Review:

The Faerie Ring is a great debut novel full of magical faerie's , history, and romance. It is a great story told from the perspective of Tiki, who just happens to be a thief living on the streets of London with other orphaned kids. I really enjoyed this book it had just the right amount of action, and the romance was definitely not the focal point the author was trying to showcase. I love books that take place in the past, and this one was very interesting because some very important historical figures for the era played a minor role in the book. I also found it refreshing that Tiki was a thief and dresses as a boy, this is very different for most female main characters, and I feel that it worked well with the story! The faeries in this book were really interesting, and the whole truce with the ring was very unique and is what I feel to be the the most defining thing in th book. The writing was very fluent and the story was very well thought out, and moved at an approiate pace for the characters. The Faerie Ring is my new favourite faerie book that I have read so far.

The wasn't really anything wrong with the book for me not to give it 5 stars, but it just wasn't one of my favourite books that I have read. The charcters name really got on my nerves, I really just didn't like it at all. I also didn't get the inpression from the dialogue that this book took place in the late 1800's, it just seemed sort of mordern day London to me. I am not a huge fan of third person perspective writing in a book, I very much prefer first, but it was fine for me in the perticular book! I feel more connected when it's in first though, so maybe I would have liked it more if it was written like that!

Overall The Faerie Ring i a great read, and Kiki Hamilton wrote a great debut novel. i would reccomend this book to anyone who like fairy tales, paranormal books, and of course faerie's as a mythical creature. I can tell you that you will Like/love this book. It was a great read and I am so glad I got the chance to read it!

  2. I understand what you mean by not wanting to give it 5 stars. The book is good, but it doesn't stand out. But it's one of the good ones this year. :D

  3. I love books with fairies. I agree that Tiki is a weird name though. I've seen worse--sometimes odd names can be really distracting. Great review!
