Summary:

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Review:

After reading/hearing about all the hype around Shatter Me I had no questions that this would be a future favourite of mine. I was a but disappointed because this book did not live up to my expectations. I still enjoyed this book very much but it's just not one of my all time favourite books.

I was completely blown away by the talent the Tahereh Mafi has in her writing. At only the age of 23 she has more talent that those who are double, or even triple her age. It's very descriptive and she portrayed through her writing that Juliette feels that she is a monster and the feeling of seclusion is superbly done. I really enjoyed Juliette as a main character, for someone who hasn't even looked at her reflection in her time locked away she shows strength in all the changes that has happened while she was away. I also liked how she wasn't glowing with confidence, I mean she should be she's pretty and has kick-ass powers. I know I would be confident. She's a very shy but strong character and a bit stubborn.

X-men revamped

The last couple of chapters were amazing beond belief, if the whole book was that way it would definitely be a new favourite. The romance in the book in one word was steam. Which was very enjoyable, and I really liked it because juliette and Adam knew eachother before so it gave them room to build on  making the steamy relationship beleivable. Throughout the whole book the are phrases that are crossed out. I found them to get annoying after a while. I get the point of them in the story and what they add to it, just too much of them for me to enjoy. Wow, so much action in this book, wierd abilities, and being on the run made this book a super fast enjoyable read. For those that are intersted in this book because of the X-men element (like me) will enjoy the whole book, and LOVE it at the end. Love.. The way the story went the second one should be one epic read. Can't wait!

Shatter Me is a excellent debut novel Tahereh shows how writing can take on a new level of quaulity. She entertwines romance, sci-fi, action, and her fantastic writing to create such a dinamic book that will leave readers despiretely needing more. If this series continues the way that it is I have no doubt that Tarereh Mafi will be a very successful author, and quite possibely  get a movie deal (hoping). Harpercollins you really need to stop publishing such great books.

  2. I have to agree that with all the hype I was set for this book it make my favorite list but sadly it fell a little short. I did like all of the elements of the storyline itself, I just failed to get past some of the writing style. I did get annoyed with the crossed out words and how everything was just a little too poetic at times. I still liked the story though and can't wait for the second book. :)

    Thanks for the great review.

  4. I loved this book I thought that the crossed out words and phrases added to Juliette's mindset. It allowed the reader to see what she was thinking and what she said instead.
Plus I thought that the writing style was original and poetic. For me it was a must read.
I can't wait to read more from Tahereh Mafi.

  5. You know, this wasn't my favorite book at first either, but it really grows on you. I just read your review for SHADOW AND BONE, and I thought it was funny how similar the love connections were in each book.
