Summary:
There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Review:

Pure was a great instalment in the Half-Blood series, but than Half-Blood in my opinion. If you've read my review of the first book you will know that I wasn't a huge fan because of the very obvious similarities to The Vampire Academy. While they are still there (because it's too late to change now), Pure stands out in it's originality. Which is the main reason why I enjoyed this book more.

Besides having a totally kick-ass main character with a snarky attitude that's oddly enjoyable, the action written within the pages is what keeps me coming back for more. Seriously there is never a dull moment with the mixture of Alex and the action and situations that she finds herself in. Okay... maybe I lied a bit! I also LOVE Seth and Caleb (that's right I don't like Aiden). They are two awesome characters that I would totally love to be friends with in real life. I'm all for Alex and Seth getting together. He may not be out of the picture just yet becuause he and Alex go through some serious bonding during Pure.

There were a ton of moments that my jaw just dropped, at one point I had to put the book done because something horrible happened to one of my favourite charaters *tear*. This just shows that Jennifer is an amazing writer capable of drawing out emotions in readers because of how emotionally attached she has made us. I definitely cannot wait until the release of Diety in November (my birthday month). I love action, Greek mythology, hot boys, and a character who can take care of herself. Pure has this all! Even though how much I loved this book it can never be my favourite because of the similarities to The Vampire Academy, which I am a die hard fan of. I hope to see the development in originality in Diety like what happened in Pure, if this happens the series can only get better for me.

Over all Pure was a very enjoyable read that I would recommend to many people. The things that are done well in this book are done very well. This series hasn't got the attention that it has for nothing, so do yourselves a favour and pick of Pure or Half-Blood if you haven't read it yet. You won't be disappointed!

  8. Haven't started the series yet. I get impatient waiting for the next book. But, I usually stick with the first guy, in this case I think it's Seth. I love Ms Armentrout's writing and look forward to the series.

  19. I love Aiden, but I think after reading Pure, I am team Seth, at least for now. I tend to go for the "bad boys," and he was really fun in Pure.

  21. "Seriously there is never a dull moment with the mixture of Alex and the action and situations that she finds herself in." <-- That is so true! It was so fast-paced that you could barely take a breath in between scenes and I loved every second of it! x) And the first book MAY have had a few similarities to VA, but this book definitely squashed them! ;)

    Amazing review, Hayley! :)
